Self Potential (SP)
SP is an electrochemical process that relies on the oxidation of the upper surface of sulfide minerals in groundwater. Natural current flows through ore bodies and back through the surrounding groundwater, which acts as the electrolyte that forms a natural battery. Measuring the natural voltage differences (usually 50–400 millivolts [mV]) permits detecting continuous metallic sulfide bodies at the top of the water table.
This low cost technique can be completed quickly and easily to provide supporting data for other anomalies such as magnetic and soil geochemistry.
Ground Level has refined this technique making it a high quality, rapid, affordable and modern exploration tool useful for many deposit types.
SP Survey Equipment Rental
$75 one-time preparation fee prior to shipping plus shipping costs
$30 per day rental fee
Equipment includes high impedance multi-meter, 2 porous pots, 2 spools each with approximately 400 m of wire, power winder, small mattock and splicing tools
$10 per day of $200 per month for a Garmin 66sr handheld GPS with multi-band capabilities
This is a straight forward exploration method that requires little training. Ground Level can provide training.
